To do in September:
During this month we can plant lily bulbs, snowdrops, crocuses, dog's tooth violets, etc. In the beginning of the month it is the latest time to plant the two-year springtime flowers – heartsease pansies, daisies, forget-me-nots, etc. All coniferous plants, even if there are eventual showers, should be well watered if we want them to get through the winter.
...Weather in September – advice and what to expect...
Generally, September is a cooler month than August and it is noticeable that days are becoming shorter. Frost is possible, especially in northern areas. However, warm and sunny days still characterize September, especially during the first half. Temperatures during warm days are usually around 19-20°C (66.2°F-68°F). Plant growth phase can go into October as well, especially in warmer areas near the coasts. During September, colder winds are possible. After a dry August, winds can cause even earlier falling of the leaves. Shorter days and a lower angle of sun rays will limit the growth of certain parts of the plants, even during the warmest days. Finding a well-lit position for your plants could have a positive effect.
